Variation tableware is undoubtedly one of Rosenhal’s most significant tableware. In this tableware, Wirkkala introduced the dyed black porcelain (pocelain Noire) developed at Rosenthal. The powerful architectural relief surface of the cups and bowls, combined with the silky-matte and glossy black porcelain, makes the tableware timeless, which is why it has been included in MoMA New York collections as an example of timeless design.
Variation astiasto on eittämättä yksi Rosenhalin merkittävimmistä astiastoista. Tässä astiastossa Wirkkala otti käyttöön Rosenthalilla kehitetyn läpivärjätyn mustan posliinin (pocelain noire). Kuppien, kulhojen voimakas arkkitehtooninen reliefipinta yhdistettynä sillkimattaiseen ja kiiltävän mustaan posliiniin tekee astiastosta ajattoman, minkä vuoksi se on otettukin New Yorkin MOMAn kokoelmiin esimerkkinä ajattomasta muotoilusta.
